Silver Age Comics

The silver age of comics began in 1956 with the introduction of Barry Allen as the new Flash in DC Showcase #4. This was the beginning of a new era in comics, where the origins of many super-heroes were based in science-fiction. The formation of the Justice League in the early 1960's ushered in one of the greatest eras in comics and pop-culture history.

Over at Marvel Comics, Stan Lee and Jack Kirby created many of the characters that are well known today in the span of just a few years in these early years. The Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, Iron Man, Hulk, The X-Men and Avengers were all introduced in this period.

Characters that had all but been forgotten from the previous comic Golden Age, were re-introduced or revamped and given new life. Among these was Captain America, found floating encased in ice by The Avengers in Avengers #4.

DC also enjoyed a revitilization of there greatest heroes: Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman. Many heroes were given side-kicks who were eventually spun-off into there own title, the Teen Titans.

Thought by many to be the greatest era in comics history, the Silver Age of comics stands the test of time, with some of the greatest characters and stories in pop-culture history!
